I picked up some gates useable for Gaslands cheap, and they should be arriving next week. To keep me busy I picked up some stuff to re use the wheel as bumpers for the track.
I feel like it is time to play Gaslands again.
A journey of a man trying to fight his Ooh! Shiney! addiction while painting interesting things at the same time....

Calling the crane done. Johann standing as a size reference. Yes, she is a big girl!

My dinner table is a disaster zone, so tomorrow clean up so I can do the next set of drawings and vacume a gazillion small bits of wood from the floor.
My estimated time for the crane build was 3 weeks, same for the cargoes. I'm actually 1 week ahead which is nice for a change. 1 week per cargo is doable, and then paint all of them combined so I'm ready ahead of time.....cause I have a lot of other things to do, like take a ton of photo's of all of the 20mm stuff I need to sell. Ugh.
I managed to add extra support inside so it now turns as it should, without a wobble or magnets. Pressure fitting wood for the win. Used scrap MDF rounds from the scrap box for the rollers, then used lollypop sticks for the guides.
Keeping parts seperate for now will help with painting.
Tomorrow fine-tuning of the angle of the wheel and adding most of the iron banding.

Extra strength, but these will trimmed back to about 1-2 mm before painting.

Justifying the reason whey I have a MDF scraps box.

Lollypot sticks added, and those got sanded down so it sits flush with the crane beam.

Slowly getting there...
After a long hard day installing another cabinet and prepping my display cases for pick up tomorrow (as I sold them) I fell asleep on the couch till SJors rang the doorbell for hobby night. Oops.
Tonight I used up all of the fireworks wood I had left, so I need to search my attic for the remaining stash to finish this. The balsa I have won't cut it as they are way too thin.
But progress is good.
I've been spending a bit of time every day snipping the heads off of dress pins. This is very taxing on my hands so I do about 20 or so and then call it a day and insert them in the desired places.
Right now I have made a platform and nailed that and got the main beam glued up, as well ad the crane arm laminated but not yet stripped or sanded. Need to do some more eyeballing to see how tall I really want it to be.
Finished building and modifying a N010. I sawed out the corner and extended the roof remains on the other side. Also some other detail changes but more about that some other day.
I've been a bit busy this weekend.
That is the Destroyed Town Scenery set done bar 1 Bombed Out Terrace House. That will be done this week, and maybe the other 2 I found in my stash (oops). For this lot I need to do the detailing, and the finishing toutches like tiles on the roof of the corner house, magnets for the shop (and I could use another 1 or 2 shops if I am honest). Fun little project this. All of the to be built extras will theme the board. Posterwalls for the Netherlands, UK, Germany etc. Old cars or Modern cars. Telephone poles or modern street lights etc. You get the idea.
All of the kits are easy to build and I even got the roofs now down to a quick process.
Received some World War Europe 28mm buildings from Sarissa, enough for a single street side. Would like to use these for VBCW as well as 1944 Holland (and probably other stuff as well).
Nice kit, tight fit in places. Changed the insides a bit and added a doorway in the top floor as it had none. Ruined some of the shutters, knobbed the doors, changed the chimneypots and extra tiles to the roof. Ready for primer.
Started - Well, bought in this case, June 2015. When shipping from the USA was still affordable and not a spare (tariffed) kidney.

Thats 2 moves ago and 10 years of my life. Was about bloody time I painted these.
"IIyama-Kevill SH-17S are affordable small size service robots for all of your needs for your Interstellar craft. Equipped with 2 dexterious manipulators no small task is too great for them. Directly connected to your ships computers they will not shy away from any service issues that arise and handle these in a swift manner"

Kevin kicked the now smoking little droid, the 10-gauge slug having removed the large central eye and most of the upper part of the little body. Its shiny black casing went flying and crumpled into a corner with a bang. He looked over to Fran who was taping up the puncture in the left leg of her suit, where the droid has sliced right through the suit but missing her leg. While that was going on, the scanner started pinging again. 3 more little lights came running around the corner. Kevin racked in another round for a aimed shot at the nearest little shit. This was costing too much time.....
Glued and pinned more wood together to get the basic frame together and started adding the iron bands (aka card and pins) and that will take a bit. Once that is done I'll work on the platform and the top of the crane, and after that tie in the wheel.
It's a real bodgejob but it works.

Old Fireworks for the win. And yes, I can't cut a straight edge to save my life....

....but we are getting there. Ignore the wheel. It thought it was Obi Wan and wanted to have the high ground.
Stripped the last tape from the roll and used my trusty The Chopper to cut swizzle sticks to size. Clad the roll with it, inside and out, and after drying sanded the sides smooth-ish. Made 2 crosses for the axle to go through and glued those on by 1,5 eye. It sorta works, but I never intended this to be a working crane anyway so no problem.

Started: September 2023 for the painting, unknown when I built it.
Another one down thx to the impetus from Scrapjacks.
Stargrave Soldier body, grenades and flashlight on the helmet are from Space Marines or Guard. Drilled out the face and put in a Necron lower chin. Oxygen backpack is a Adeptus Mechanicus piece, shoulder guard is a old Chaos Warrior something part? The rest is stock Stargrave. Decals: Star is from 1-94, Screaming Eagle from Warlord and the marking on the front of the redcap is a fuel filler marking from a German aircraft kit.
Background is that these are Pirates from The Numberd, they all carry a yellow shoulderpad with a number on it and they only refer to themselves as a number. Unknown is how many there are, and if it is just a ruse to appear more powerful. And the why, who knows....dead men don't talk.
First thing to build is the wheel. I've looked at scratchbuilding the wheen, 3D printing it and what not. , then took a step back and looked at how others did it.
Started: October 2024
And it is done. Yes, I could do a ton more, but I won't. She is done and can go with the rest of my scenery and live on a shelf. Again, a shame this is OOP, but there are more MDF fish in the sea.
Enjoy!
