28mm Undead Gargoyle....something

Last year I bought this model from a local models reseller. It is officially a, <checks notes>, Aviarch Harpy from the Teratic Cohort from Warcry. Cause sure, why use normal names that you can't copyright ey?

Did not like the head so tossed that into the bits box and used a Beastman skull from GW's most excellent Citadel Skulls box (now that is a box that is worth its price if you ask me). The model arrived broken (missing wingtip and minor bumps etc) so fixed that, only the wingtip repair failed so I thought, wht bother. Added some rocks to the base and glued big ol washer underneath for support and to stick to magnetic sheeting. And as usual, it stayed in the todo box for almost a year?

Primed it bone, gave it a good drybrush, tried some glowing eyes (it's passable) and sprayed it gloss for protection, then matted all the bone and did the bloodwork and tufts.

I'm not sure what I made tbh. While working on it, it feels it can work as a generic undead enemy or a boss level figure for Silver Bajonet, Horror Games, maybe Deth Wizards, Mordheim, be a Necromancers pet. So I'll just call it a Undead Gargoyle and call it a day.

15mm Mooring Pontoon

Mooring pontoon for the future harbour. Metal hull boat is a 15mm resin cast from The Scene in the UK (now defunct I believe?), with a bit of scrap H0 roof to cover it, and the gaps and sides filled with superglue and flour. Rusted it all out to heck.

Should also work as a floating bridge support or a towed barge with cargo. Heck, mount a AA gun on it, why not.

Finishing a quickbuild (9 months later) - 15mm Fishing Boat (or Mistery Machine)

I finished the fishing boat I started in August of last year, see here: Quickbuild Fishing Boat

I added a mast, resin tires, more netting and then the top light broke off, then reprimed it and it sat abandoned in a box for 8 months, until refound during one of my many, many cleanups (though it never seems to get much cleaner, funny that).

Spent 2 sessions painting it and getting it ready for pictures, and yet again I realised while checking the pictures on my PC that I had inadvertently painted a somewhat familiar scheme.

Just a bit less bright than this....

Also, I need to make a few docks, I should prep some of the big blocks of wood I have with filler to make concrete piers or something.

 Anyhoo....

"One of the many small fishing boats fishing for sardines off of the coast of Wadiya, KG 3 is nice and bright with the usual eyes on the bow to ward off bad luck. To date, she has never burned down and only dragged a naval mine once"

She is one of a set of 4 boats from Kibri, set 39160 which can be had for about 20-ish euros per 4.

Space, more Space, all the Space!

Had a productive weekend installing 2 new Ikea Pax, giving me another 234x200x59 of storage space, and just got back home from picking up and installing a used Billy bookcase for downstairs.

With the extra space on the first floor I can keep all of my precious....painted stuff only 1 flight of stairs up instead of 2, one of them being the rickety folding wooden one that I would not want to trust with my life (but will have to till I save up for a metal folding one).

End result, lots of extra space, down more cash than I would have liked, and twisted my other knee for good measure while doing yardwork today. Bring on Cybernetic enhancements, I say.

Now to sell some more stuff so I can afford doors for it.

Monument Groupbuild - The Roundabout Monument

In 1906, the first roundabout was built in Wadiya, starting a world wide craze and the obvious lie that the British created the first Roundabout in 1907. Its creation was documented in The Wadiyah Times on opening day April 1st 1906, sadly the records were lost when the paper burned down in 1965.

To commemorate the 50th year since its creation, a large monument was erected in the middle of the roundabout in 1966. This did create a sharp increase in donkey related fatalities, something the Department of Tobacco, Donkeys and Firearms strongly denies.

This was my backup entry after I wrecked the original one. I hope to get that fixed somewhere in the future. Dimensionally it is overly large and I left off most scale specific items on this, so it is also playable for 28mm. I've made a "after the Revolution" copy as well to use after the loss of a game or to recapture it. Just for funsies. I'll post up the other entries as well after the deadline expires.

Gunbird invades Peleliu - Bookkeeping finished

After using my free time to crunch some numbers, I think i have it all noted down.

Japanese Scenario 1:

  • Infantry - more than enough, plenty of spares from the Army Box alone. The LMG's will come from Peter Pig (in stock) but I am lacking 2 so added a pack to my order.
  • AT-Guns - enough in the box for the scenario, loader teams will come from Peter Pig (in stock)
  • HMG - same
  • Sniper and Spotter - Peter Pig (in stock)
  • Off table 81mm - I can pre order this blister that has 4 teams of 81mm and a Observer team (always useful in Battlegroup). available from July 5th so I will wait.
  • Grenade L. battery - Enough in the Army Box and I have spares from Peter Pig

Japanese Scenario 2:

  •  Infantry - still enough left overs in the Army box, and a few from Peter Pig so ok
  •  Rifle and Mortar spider holes - enough spares to cut a few apart, no worries
  • Snipers - more in the Peter Pig pack
  •  Timed Mortar Barrage - use the models as counters
  • HMG - sorted
  • Type 90 75mm gun - 2 of these in the Army box so sorted.

So besides chasing down a blister of 81mm mortars I'm ok for the Japanese.

USMC Scenario 1:

  • BAR - I have 9, I need 18. Noted this for a order with Peter Pig
  • Infantry -  I need about 60, there are 25 normal joes in the army box, the rest is NCO etc. I need to go over my Peter Pig USMC stash again for this, but I am coming up short.
  •  Forward HQ - sorted
  •  60mm mortar teams - I need 3, I have 2. So added to the order for Peter Pig
  •  30.cal teams - 2 in the box, just what I need and i have spares from Peter Pig
  •  LVT-2 - will be 3D printed
  • Bazookas - Box has 2, I need 6 - Added to Peter Pig order
  • Demo man - just sculpt the charge bags on the models.

USMC Scenario 2:

  • If I have painted all the infantry for Scenario 1, I just need to add 3 BAR's and 9 more men, so added those to the PP order
  • Forward HQ - sorted
  • 30.cal teams - sorted
  • Captured Type 92 - already working on it
  • 2 Corpsmen - I'll use spare loaders suitably painted.
  • Captured Pillbox - I'll reuse 2 from the previous scenario and modify another to be more American
  • Barbed wire - I'll knock those out in an hour, easily sorted
  • LVT-2 - I'll use the one from the previous scenario

Now....let's get it on :)

So, I dropped my entry for the Monumental Build :/ Long live the new entry I suppose.

Yeah, gotta love those hands of mine. Was finishing up the putty work and, as happens all too often, my hand just suddenly said Nope. Puttywork ruined as I was working outside, all warped with bits of dirt and sand in it, a leg broke off and the plastic split at the seam. Just great. To get it all back to where it was will take 3 hobby sittings at least, and I simply don't have that time left till the deadline.

So, don't enter then? In my own competition? Not a chance.

I grabbed some more wooden playblocks from the attic, glued 2 each together and sanded them a bit, based them up on a big round base and added some supports that will double as a architectural feature. Then used my cordless drill to ram 2 holes into one of them. You see, i will be making a Before (the Revolution) and a After (the Revolution) momument in Wadiya.

What the monument is for, the backstory, what it looks like painted up.....that I will show when the deadline has passed on Sunday 18th of May 20:00 GMT, So consider this a teaser pic.

A very wooden pose....

I now have 2 hobby sessions left till the deadline.

Banged up Silo

 3 years ago I painted up 2 Silo's > Double Silo

Today, I finished a third :) There will be loads more as I find them supergeneric for various scales, even if they are originally for H0. Next up I should paint a few more that aren't knackered though...they are great for the Zone.

Marine Woodpecker WIP

No, not some weird mythical creature. Would be fun though :)

No, for the 2nd Scenario in Battlegroup Pacific the USMC get's a Captured Type 92 HMG with 3 man crew. Right...no one makes that. But I can :)

I picked up a pack of USMC 30 cal teams and a pack of Japanese HMG's. That gives me 1 spare team each for later, or to rebuild into loader teams. Who knows.

I removed the Type 92 from the gunner but kept his hands and feet (sounding like a slasher movie now) on the gun. The hands cause they will need to connect to the USMC gunner cause those have to go, as he he has his hands on top and behind the gun on the paddles instead of the lower grip.

Yes, I know it's a 15mm model, but hey, it's what I like. And I only ever will need 1 team.

I removed the hands and gun from the USMC gunner, saving the gun for later. Sanded down his base a lot cause there is a difference in size between the 2 models.

That brings me to the Type 92. The model is very compressed compared to the original, so I took off the the rather short barrel and replaced it with a longer bit of paperclip after some very dodgy drilling. Sadly I can't fix the back end. Well, I could, but then I might as well build a full new gun

Gunbird invades Peleliu - The planning fase

 Right - O.

PostNL just dropped off the Battlefronts USMC and Japanese starter armies, I checked those and put them aside with the rest of the 15mm Pacific collection.

Unlike the Stalker project, I need this to be much more organised to prevent burn out, so....check list.

Check what I have and mark that off.

Build what I have and mark that off.

Paint what I have and mark that off.

A bit schoolish, but it works if I want to get a project done.

I'll be using Battlegroup Pacific and playing the following scenario's:

  • Scenario 1 - Getting "The Point" - Peleliu, 15th April 1944
  • Scenario 2 - Holding "The Point" - Peleliu, 15th-16th April 1944

That means build forces, build scenery, prep table, game. I'm giving myself 12 months cause I habitually keep doing stuff in between :)

I made checklists for all.

Scenario 1 - Japanese Forces

Scenario 2 - Japanese Forces

Scenario 1 - USMC

Scenario 2 - USMC

For both armies, the 2nd Scenario has plenty of duplicates, so I don't need to paint it all again (thank God!). Tomorrow I'll go over my stash and sort what I have for this, and see what I still need. As far as I can tell now I'm short a USMC 60mm Mortar team and 4 Bazooka teams

And that's it for today. Long day. Tired.

Edit - and tired I was, I accidentally tripled the amount of USMC I needed. Modifed 10/5/2025

Fort Matanzas in 15mm?

I've been looking for a suitable small 1600's fort for a harbour in AK-47, and I think I have found one.

Fort Matanzas

I picked up a pack of Range 10 Nr 30 small cannons from Peter Pig that I want to use for them. I'll most likely keep the guns seperate on wooden bases to denote gun platforms, might even use one to uparm a small truck, who knows.

That it might be usefull as well for 15mm Pulp, Pirate or Modern games....that's only a bonus. Now to start using the drawings to make my own set of drawings to match the guns and make it a decent but not too large size on the table.

Repainting Buzz Light-year Fighters - Decals done

Added a sampling of decals from various sources for that Fighter Jock look. Now to dry, varnish tomorrow and then weathering.

Edit: Can't find the bleeding varnish anywhere so bought new. My pots were plus 10 years old anyway. Stay tuned...
