The Last War - scenery WIP 1

I literally dropped one of my entries on the floor thanks to my brilliant hands and I gave up on them all. Seeing my hard work shatter in many pieces.....yeah.

So, I grabbed a sheet of free styrofoam and cut it into smaller bits and made 2 test pieces for The Last War.
Those came out really good, but 5cm was too tall so I recut everything I had made down to 4 cm.

And that's how I have been spending my evenings. They are big, durable when dropped.

I'm doing them as tinned sheet and wood trenches. Everything completely in wood really nackered my wrists so that was out. I'll be adding details to some, but not all. I only need enough for a 2x2 area, but making more than enough to cover a 4x4 table for Killteam as well (might as well, right?)

Warranty has expired - please contact your local Technician

Finished a few items from the WIP box. Couple of things I bodged together from the various 40K Mechanisu something scenery sets that tend(ed) to go cheap after another box release. Ah well. More to come, no idea when I will finish them.

WIP Walls (Killteam, Stargrave, Post Apoc, anything 28mm)

Had a hobby night lastnight that was cancelled at the last moment, so donned the painting apron and went ahead with a quick (turned out to be not that quick) drybrush of all the walls I made, painted the metal parts and did the rust on everything. Next up is detailing, rubble, posters, and some more weathering. I'm really trying to get this all done in another 1-2 painting sessions.

All made from foam, MDF bases and cocktailsticks for rebar, with some lights made and printed by Modhail tossed in. Nothing too fancy, base, some bits with a highlight color to break up all the grey, and detailing. Get it done man, get it done.....

Shine a little light on me

Finished the worklight on the back of the van Rhino. It came from a Sentinel, and the base is from a Ork Gargant, cabling is soldering wire.

I recycled a Chaos vehicle ram into a light bar using more 1/24 truck parts. It needs more work and cabling, but after that small details, cleanup and tracks and ready for primer!

Knock knock? More like DAKKA DAKKA!

As a Ork Ambulance has to be the most hated kind of ambulance in 40K, it should look accordingly.

Guessing eveyone and their pet Squig will shoot at this, so added more bulletimpacts. Most likely it will get more before primer hits it.

Smokey and the barrel.

Removed the right front armored exhaust cover (God I love my Japanese saw) and replaced it with something more....Orky. I guess fuel drums will always be a useful tool for any Ork Mek. Almost done now with all the modifications, work is now to be done on the top and rear section, then slap on the tracks. And to find my missing Rhino headlights....somewhere.

Back to the Orks

Finally more or less settled in the flat, with a routiune and everything. Long Covid is still hitting hard, test after test and lot's of therapy and no dicsernable improvement. Taking better care of myself and really conserving my energye to what needs to be done, not chase every pipe dream that enters my head.

And lastnight, I finally had some energy spare, and with a second hand Rhino in my hand and pictures of the Forgeworld looted Rhino front of me I managed a whole new door in about 3 hours time. Time wise it's glacial, but at least I did a thing. I hear looted Rhino's aren't a thing anymore, but I'm pretty close to just giving up on wargaming and just painting what I like, without the pressure of making a force or army or whatever. It's not like I finished one in the last 10 years anyway, so....

So yes, I did a thing. Might do another door tonight or just watch some TV, I hear Obi Wan is on tonight.

How are you all doing right now?

Tyranid Killteam: Don't think some Paracetamol is going to cure his headache....

A tiny bit of progress on the lead Stealer (for now anyway)

Used a Forge World torso I picked up a while ago, and a skull from the ever so handy Citadel Skull box. When it has all dried, add sand, then sculpt extra toes on the other foot and fix the cuts in the leg.

Much more to do.

Tyranid Killteam: puttypushing

A bit of progress on the miniFex...Genecarnie....whatever.

Isn't it adorable? Did the rest of the armour and the shoulders, scratched and dented as they are. As soon as this is dry I might add 1 or 2 plates behind it on his spine....or I may not. This guy is more of a Defensive Tackle kind of guy. I used Old One Eye (the original one) as my inspiration, and I'm trying to figure out if adding smakk cheekspikes fit him without hindering the movement of his claws (which are still seperate for ease of painting, and unfinished putty wise). But mine has no eyes as those have been plated over, so the tongue counts as a sniffer of sorts.

Tyranids. The sky is the limit...even if the rules don't let you.

Hive Fleet Kraken spotted! Yes, that one, with 28mm models. On my very table.

After being asked to get a Killteam ready, and having painted some (unsuccesful) tests on some old 2nd hand Genestealers, I ended up on the Hive Fleet Kraken paintscheme.

One of my "voluteers"

As I am rusty as fuck painting 28mm models, and I would have to paint a fair few of these, I found a nice tutorial, and with wat paint I have for them, all I needed to order was a extra bottle of Seraphim Sepia was as mine was running low. Ferry (Crayne) gave me few army lists so I have a guide of what to build, so here I go. Nothing earthshattering painting wise, but I do try and be as neat as possible as my hands will let me.

My first 2 normal Genestealers with Scything Talons and Toxin Sacs. All the hard and stabby bity bits will be red, Toxic stuff will be Green with an orange wash so visually they are easy to reognise. All blue tongues cause hey, I like animals with bright blue tongues. Need to trim the base, varnish them x2 and tuft/debris them, but I will do that in one go when I have more done.

Also started up basing the large bag of ....whatever the heck they are, spore puffers, I dunno, and painting them. Say hello to 6 orders of Spaghetti and red sauce!

Just for use as markers I guess? Never played Killteam, so... I have 6 more of them in the pipeline, and as soon as I can find a base for it, I will base the big gaping ...mouth? as well.  And also started basing some of the spore mines cause why not.

Little bit of work done on GS No3, who is getting the same loadout, but with Extended Carapache. As I really don't like just adding the silly looking plastic plates on his shoulders and calling him done, I want to put some Greenstuff to work for him/her/it.  Also gave it a second contactpoint to the ground....I'm sure he looks all fine and danky raised up on a toe, but I prefer to have my nids survive trips to where I game and not break off at the ankle. Then shave his tongue down, and extend the plates on his head as well and I'd like to give hm the small pointy rhino horn looking thing on his snout as well. I see his Extended Carapache as extra armour so his arms might get some as well. He could be a one off, who knows. I hear the Extended Carapache does not work all that well with Genestealers but I at least want to build and paint one.

So yeah, me painting 28mm stuff again. Who knew :)

Paintrecipe (just in case I lose my notes)

  • Prime white
  • Paint base with Vallejo Surface Primer 73.606 German Green Brown (RAL 8000)
  • Wash in Citadel Seraphim Sepia
  • Drybrush with VMC 123 Dark Sand including the base
  • Wash with Seraphim Sepia  in any of the centilation pores (I really don't know what they are) for better definition.
  • Paint armour and stabby bits VMC 146 Hull Red
  • Highlight armour and stabby bits with VMA 71.003 Scarlet Red
  • Paint the "eyes" and "spine" of the Toxin Sac in VMC 073 Park Green
  • Wash the Toxin Sac with Vallejo Model Wash 76.505 Light Rust
  • Paint the tongue VMC 068 Light Turqoise
  • Wash the eyesockets with Citadel Nuln Oil or any other black wash
  • Highlight the eyes with white
  • Wash the eyesockets with VMW 76.505 Light Rust
  • Base is now 73.606 German Green Brown drybrushed with VMC 123 Dark Sand and then VMC 004 Off white
  • I'm assuming a black trim will suffice, but I need to chat a bit about that.

You call that a mining laser? THIS is a mining laser!

I received 2 Sentinels in the mail today, 1 to match to my old Forgeworld Load Lifter kit, and one to upgrade with a mining laser.

The man portable mining laser is a tad weedy though for a Sentinel, so.....

Looks like a match made in heaven.

This will do quite nicely :)

Harry? Harry?

Harry got some paint. Lots more to do, I can't paint a lot as it just hurts too damned much.

Slow but steady.

Tank? Tankette? Oildrum with a gun? Bit crap tbh...

Harry needs a ride. Or a bit of scenery.

Grot Tank. Ok, that is being a bit generous, calling it a tank. Even calling it a tankette feels generous!

Killteam? Me? Well, I suppose....

My group started it, I can't make my mind up (what else is new) so now own stuff for Orks, Genestealer Cults and Primaris....<sigh>

Been politely asked to focus on one group for now and get em done, so.....Orks I guess?

Meet "Harry"

I've always been a fan of militant Grots back in my Gorka Morka days, so hey. He is from the Grot box set, I only lengthend his pistol barrel (hence the nickname "Harry"), removed the ridiculous bit of hair, and added a pouch and a Commanders cap. Now to paint the little bleeder, so tomorrow he and a sacrificial Ork will get a basecoat and I will get cracking. If my wrists can take it.
