Anything is a ... if you are brave enough.

Recently saw a post on the LAF with some nice scifi scatter that inspired me to make my own. I could not find any decent parts till I found this for 2 euros in the toy section, a nice hard plastic too.

After some cutting, basing and adding a few bolts on the inside for weight and some light detailing on the outside I got this:

The tops of the rocket boosters will be finished another day, I'm not happy with how they turned out. But the others are just lovely, so enjoy. I'll be dual using these for 15mm and 28mm.

  1. Very impressive.
To state the obvious there are full stack space shuttle kits in both 1/144th and 1/288th or so. The former from Airfix and Revell at least and the latter from Academy. The Revell one comes with a version of the crawler which might be useful for something. Theses are all rather old kits now, predating the first launch of the STS.

    1. Thx! I've been keeping my eye on those but those are sadly way too expensive for me. The 144 scale sets go for around 50 euros here. Maybe I'll get lucky someday and score a cheap incomplete one.

  2. Looks great! Getting this sort of gas storage/fuels tower on the board really helps sell a game as "sci-fi" and it also add some cover/objectives as well. (or maybe a target that blows up half the board?)

As might be expected, here in the US the kits of the STS are easier to get (or at least used to be) and I am pretty sure they even had a 1/72 scale one, however they are almost always just the orbiter, not the stack.

    1. I have a 1/144 orbiter somewhere in my stash, but it has limited parts, is still complete and I might be better off selling it for some extra cash. I bought a used 1/72 really big Apollo rocket as well, but that is a bit of a bust as it is mostly very thin flappy useless plastic. That and coated in enamel....
