A bit of progress on the miniFex...Genecarnie....whatever.
Isn't it adorable? Did the rest of the armour and the shoulders, scratched and dented as they are. As soon as this is dry I might add 1 or 2 plates behind it on his spine....or I may not. This guy is more of a Defensive Tackle kind of guy. I used Old One Eye (the original one) as my inspiration, and I'm trying to figure out if adding smakk cheekspikes fit him without hindering the movement of his claws (which are still seperate for ease of painting, and unfinished putty wise). But mine has no eyes as those have been plated over, so the tongue counts as a sniffer of sorts.
Tyranids. The sky is the limit...even if the rules don't let you.
A journey of a man trying to fight his Ooh! Shiney! addiction while painting interesting things at the same time....

Hive Fleet Kraken spotted! Yes, that one, with 28mm models. On my very table.
After being asked to get a Killteam ready, and having painted some (unsuccesful) tests on some old 2nd hand Genestealers, I ended up on the Hive Fleet Kraken paintscheme.
As I am rusty as fuck painting 28mm models, and I would have to paint a fair few of these, I found a nice tutorial, and with wat paint I have for them, all I needed to order was a extra bottle of Seraphim Sepia was as mine was running low. Ferry (Crayne) gave me few army lists so I have a guide of what to build, so here I go. Nothing earthshattering painting wise, but I do try and be as neat as possible as my hands will let me.
My first 2 normal Genestealers with Scything Talons and Toxin Sacs. All the hard and stabby bity bits will be red, Toxic stuff will be Green with an orange wash so visually they are easy to reognise. All blue tongues cause hey, I like animals with bright blue tongues. Need to trim the base, varnish them x2 and tuft/debris them, but I will do that in one go when I have more done.
Also started up basing the large bag of ....whatever the heck they are, spore puffers, I dunno, and painting them. Say hello to 6 orders of Spaghetti and red sauce!
Just for use as markers I guess? Never played Killteam, so... I have 6 more of them in the pipeline, and as soon as I can find a base for it, I will base the big gaping ...mouth? as well. And also started basing some of the spore mines cause why not.
Little bit of work done on GS No3, who is getting the same loadout, but with Extended Carapache. As I really don't like just adding the silly looking plastic plates on his shoulders and calling him done, I want to put some Greenstuff to work for him/her/it. Also gave it a second contactpoint to the ground....I'm sure he looks all fine and danky raised up on a toe, but I prefer to have my nids survive trips to where I game and not break off at the ankle. Then shave his tongue down, and extend the plates on his head as well and I'd like to give hm the small pointy rhino horn looking thing on his snout as well. I see his Extended Carapache as extra armour so his arms might get some as well. He could be a one off, who knows. I hear the Extended Carapache does not work all that well with Genestealers but I at least want to build and paint one.
So yeah, me painting 28mm stuff again. Who knew :)

Paintrecipe (just in case I lose my notes)
- Prime white
- Paint base with Vallejo Surface Primer 73.606 German Green Brown (RAL 8000)
- Wash in Citadel Seraphim Sepia
- Drybrush with VMC 123 Dark Sand including the base
- Wash with Seraphim Sepia in any of the centilation pores (I really don't know what they are) for better definition.
- Paint armour and stabby bits VMC 146 Hull Red
- Highlight armour and stabby bits with VMA 71.003 Scarlet Red
- Paint the "eyes" and "spine" of the Toxin Sac in VMC 073 Park Green
- Wash the Toxin Sac with Vallejo Model Wash 76.505 Light Rust
- Paint the tongue VMC 068 Light Turqoise
- Wash the eyesockets with Citadel Nuln Oil or any other black wash
- Highlight the eyes with white
- Wash the eyesockets with VMW 76.505 Light Rust
- Base is now 73.606 German Green Brown drybrushed with VMC 123 Dark Sand and then VMC 004 Off white
- I'm assuming a black trim will suffice, but I need to chat a bit about that.

Dougie's Woodland Pattern Tutorial - reposted
Reposting this from Dougies Blog (HERE) as I don't trust Photobucket anymore.
A short tutorial on how I paint US Woodland Pattern and its derivatives. The figure in question is a Mutineer Miniatures African Militia Boy soldier. He's painted using my normal tecniques, on a black undercoat. For the tutorial I'll be painting Woodland Pattern on his 3/4 cut off combat pants. All colours are Vallejo Model Color. Dougie.
1. The base colour 922 USA Uniform is blocked in leaving black showing on clothing joins and seams.
2. Apply horozontal blotches of 875 Beige Brown, use references to capture the "look" of the pattern.
3. Apply horozontal blotches of 847 Dark Sand, again use your references to get the "look".
4. The last stage is to add the black "squiggles" that characterises the pattern and you're done!
Tutorial by Dougie, not by me. Full credit to him.

Aaron Vayro's Keffiyeh / Shemagh painting tutorial
Helping out a friend by posting his tutorial for him. All credit goes to him, not me. I'm just the typist.
Paint the shemagh in your choice of red (in this case Vallejo FLat Red), making sure to leave black lines for the folds. Use a dark wash on the Shemagh and re highlight. If you want to paint a black Shemagh start with German grey, again leaving black lines for the folds, and washing with black wash.
Wash applied and re highlighted
Thin paint and paint in white lines to represent edge of the pattern . And the tassle bits . Try keep some of the black showing . Trying to make the headscarf appear folded . Best to work in triangle shapes . Some touch ups may be needed
Thin paint and paint in the dots . Or small lines . Trying to keep them all in a line to represent a pattern . But try and follow the contour and the segment / triangle you are painting.
Handy to have a bit of red paint to use to correct any mistakes as you go .
This should work in 15mm, 20mm and 28mm.

Was working on some other gaming stuff lastnight and after digging through my bits I had put some bits aside that had nothing to do with what was working on.....that looked a bit space station ish. So, a old flights base and some glue later, plus a dozen orange washes. 1/72 tank and aircraft parts and a 1/100 Astro mech head. Have not played a space game in years, so why I bothered I'm not sure, but it was fun to do something different.

Latest news: Nelengele nation receives armour from the Republic of France
The nation of Nelengele thanks the President of France and his donation of spare parts and high tech(ish) armour for the General-for-Life Emmanuel Nwude's Lifeguard.
(For some odd reason I'm less scared to paint (and fuck up stuff) when it is not....real...so a donation to TAS Modelshop later to get 3 of these and a box of Hellcannons for my TW:2K forces, and I want to get them in action as fast as possible)

Why go the easy way when you can take the hard route?
Britannia has quite a few sculpts I like. But when the owner died nothing new appeared and the range is in dire need of some upgrades.....so I'm making my own.
At least Britannia is something I can match my skill level in sculpting to, fortunately.
All conversions off of the same bike, and a NVA gunner turned into a WW2 Soviet one

Farmer Jan
Conversion of a Britannia Vietcong Porter bicycle. Now it is Farmer Jan, the refugee. Or Farmer Jan, the smuggler. Who knows.....
My first skin paint in years. I could not find my triade of paints and it showed, so that is a bit shit. The blue overalls are a bit shit but will make great Chemsuit overalls for my future Iranians. The rest is fine.

Who's on guard? Part 4 - Calling Major Tom. Over.
Comms
bunker is getting a bit of greenstuff every evening as I've focussed on
something a comms bunker need....an antenna. Courtesy of a stellar deal
on the local Fleabay, I picked up a older box of Sommerfeldt H0 scale
with 5 metal lattice work towers, with a plastic base and a bit of bolt
imbedded inside. Cut that off, added a base, added the oil drums, some
sandbags, some wiring and a magnet on top. That way I can change it from
a normal antenna in the kind used for listening posts. Might even have a
bit of foreign influence....
Still more to do though, clean up etc.
