Ikea Norden; my new, next, best gaming table? Also: seriously stressed out!

So.....11 days till they chainsaw a large opening in our roof to install the 5 metre wide dormer, and the rest should be done by the end of February at the latest (then  we can paint, lay a floor (well, other people, I can get down to the floor but I'm not coming back up again), dad has volunteered time and tools for that) and I'm hemmoraging money like water. But the accident settlement will pay for that, and now I'm looking forward to the future again. I'd rather have a painfree and depression free future, but hey, beggers can't be choosers.

I've been selling off a lot of my kit collection....as much as I like all those aircraft, where will I put them when they are finished? Yes, my floorspace will increase, but my actual wallspace will be a lot less. My deskspace in front of the window will increase to 3 metres, more if I get a L shaped table for both ends, less if I get smaller ones and plant a a double stack of Alex cabinets in between, which makes all of my stock of resin, plastic etc easily available. Or get a slightly bigger desk and put 2 stacks of  Alex beside the workstation as that really helps out with the space.

Well, what I do know, is that I will not be buying anything till the attic is done, my current stuff has been brought upstairs, and I can see what fits that I actually have. All the stock and storage stuff can be put aside for the time being, at least then I know what has to go as well (and can fund new room thingies....ehm, furniture.

Sorry, bit stressed. So much money, so dependant on others to get things done and if there is anything I loathe is to depend on others as I feel I am losing control. But that is not just a Aspie thing, Kim is going slightly bananas as well atm with all of the planning work.

I also built stuff, and I am trying to rest my hands as much as possible.....but that is for another post.

  1. I have had similar doubts with our renovation, our third floor and roof space renovations and the ability to get artisans to complete or even arrive on time, then they seem to take forever to get things completed. Winter does not help as it can be wet, cold and a misery.

At least you have an opportunity to create the space that you can create and need for the next project. I am yet to start the renovation of my wargames (salon de guerre) and workshop room and hope to have them both on line by the middle of spring 2020.

    cheers

    1. It will be such a large space, but also it's not, the pitched roof makes things.....Interesting.

  2. Well that IS exciting/terrifying. Do have any plans for us to ogle?

And is it common to do work like that in the winter? Around here it only rains in the winter, so this sort of thing would be done in the summer.

    1. This time no plans, I tried to make them, but gave up after Kim changed her mind for the umpteenth time about what she wanted. As asoon as the dormer is put in place next week, I'll grab a sheet and do some rough measurements.

No, not common, we got a tiny discount though for it. Rain is always an issue, but besides hoping for the best, not much we can do.

    2. Discounts are a great thing, and work can certainly be done in the wet cold seasons of the year.

    3. Well, the guys are here at 7:00, the crane by 11:00, and the whole thing fitted and watertight before 15:00. I'll just pray to the Elder Gods or something. And then wait a few weeks before they return to do the rest.

    4. That sounds pretty ideal! A couple of dry days should be easy to find.

    5. Maybe, but the wednesday is a fixed date they can't change. If it pours, we need to stand standby with towels as it is being installed, come rain or shine.

  3. I have one of those Norden tables set up as my hobby desk. Not a bad set up.

    1. I had to turn one down for a mere 50 euros today. With everything from the attic about to te be stuffed in and around the house, there is no room for it, now :( Hopefully I can find more of those bargains when I'm set up.
